Two weeks ago at Pocono we saw Denny Hamlin pick up his 3rd straight win, and 4th on the season. Then last week at San Diego we saw a new course and a new winner as the Toyota dominance continue with Corey Heim picking up his first career Cup Series win. Next, we head to another Road Course, the last Road Course of the season, Sonoma. Down below you will find different statistics from all of the NASCAR Cup races here at Sonoma Raceway ranging from Most Wins to Best Average Finishes by starting position. So read and enjoy these fun fact track stats!
In this post you will only find all-time stats, if you are looking for only active drivers stats or Next Gen stats check out my next article Active/Next Gen Cup Track Stats: Sonoma.
Active Drivers will be highlighted like so
Active means any driver who started a race in the 2026 Cup Series season.

First Winner:
Ricky Rudd 06/11/1989

Most Recent Winner: Shane Van Gisbergen 07/13/2025
Worst Starting Positions by Winner

5 2017-16 12 Kevin Harvick 10 2016-16 10 Tony Stewart

Only twice in 35 Sonoma races has a driver won when starting out of the Top 15, but both of those times were drivers starting 30th or worse. So, don’t start between 15th and 29th if you want to win this weekend.

Winning the Pole is usually a sign of at least a decent finish as only 10 of the Sonoma Pole winners finished the race outside the Top 15.

Continuing with the Mark Martin love (sorta), he is the only driver to lead more than 61% of a race here at Sonoma and not win. So, leading 68 laps this weekend is pretty much a guaranteed win, especially if it’s SVG who does it.
