“Appreciate all the hard work. Let’s go forward all day!” – Blaine Perkins

Stage 1

Lap 1 provided the first caution of the day for the third week in a row. With that, Blaine Perkins moved up five spots. He took the restart on Lap 7 in P24 and was given some instructions by spotter Jason Jarrett.

Two laps later, the caution waved again as two more cars wrecked. In the chaos, Perkins moved up two more positions. Lap 13 brought the green flag, and Perkins in P20. He held his position through some mid-pack stacking. He had fallen to P21 when the next caution waved for another wreck.

He noted, “I’m a little edgy, but okay.” However, crew chief Cody McKenzie opted to keep Perkins on track in an attempt to get a read on the car after a long, green-flag run – if one ever came.

Lap 25 brought another restart, and Perkins took the green from P22. He lost two more positions in the subsequent laps, which featured the most green-flag laps of the day.

When the green-white-checkered waved, Perkins was scored P26.

Perkins said, “Still edgy. But, tight center and exit of [Turn] 2.” He went on to discuss what the cars around him were able to do better than he was able to.

Stage 2

After pitting for adjustments, fuel, and tires, Perkins started the second stage in P25. In the shuffling of the opening lap, he gained a spot, then got one more 10 laps later.

One lap later (Lap 67), the caution waved for debris. Perkins noted he still felt edgy, but his exit was better. McKenzie had Perkins stay on track, and the No. 31 restarted in P23. After getting in a three-wide situation, he jumped to P20. However, in the closing laps of the stage, he fell to P23.

Stage 3

He returned to the track in P19 with 103 to go and was told there was one more scheduled stop coming his way. He fell to P23 in the opening laps of the final stage. As he lost one more spot, he radioed in, “Too free.”

After getting lapped, McKenzie and Perkins began to discuss pit strategy. With 60 to go, Perkins came to his team, but was tagged with a speeding penalty.

He paid the penalty with another trip down pit road and returned to the track in P28, down two laps.

On Lap 179, the caution waved as teammate Rajah Caruth wrecked, and McKenzie debated the plan. Ultimately, Perkins was kept on track, and he restarted P26, down a lap, with 17 to go.

In the closing laps, he gained one spot and finished the day P25.

NASCAR fans know sponsors make the sport go ’round. We want to give a shoutout to Werner Enterprises. They played a huge part of the weekend for Blaine and the No. 31 team.
