Note: Since three NASCAR Cup Series regulars qualified ahead of P13, we counted to the NCTS regular who qualified 13th – Dawson Sutton in P16.
Stage 1
Drivers took the race three wide as soon as the green waved, and Dawson Sutton quickly lost four spots. By Lap 4, he settled in at P20. The first caution came on Lap 7 as Kris Wright and Frankie Muniz wrecked. Sutton was running P19 at the time, and told his team he was “snug on exit.”
Under caution, Spotter Frankie Kimmel coached Sutton on the width and lines of the track. Before taking the green, Sutton was able to gain one more position. The green flag was once again in the air, and with that, Sutton fell to P20.
On Lap 18, he found himself three wide and fell to P22 in the process. Then, when he took three to go, he radioed in with concerns about a tire. He managed to stay on the lead lap and finished the opening stage in P26.

Stage 2
Following a pit stop, Sutton expressed some concern about what he was feeling. He came back to his crew, but after a once-over, returned to the track. However, he was still reporting a vibration. He lined up P31 and quickly jumped to P27 with the green flag.
Sutton was suddenly on pit road again, just 10 laps into the stage. He suffered damage to his truck after contact with the No. 76.
After falling four laps down, he was forced to also serve a pass-through penalty for too many men over the wall.
He returned to the track in P36, down five laps with 11 to go in the stage.
Four laps later, he was back on pit road. However, before he could complete the stage, Sutton took his No. 26 Chevy to the garage and called it a day after sustaining a significant amount of damage.
